We’re taking a tasty tour of Vancouver’s many brunches to create The Ultimate Vancouver Brunch Guide. This week we’re on Main Street digging into a delicious vegetarian feast at The Acorn Restaurant & Bar.

Brunch at The Acorn is hard to fault. The presentation, the flavours, and the textures are all spot on. What’s more at the end of the meal, you’re left feeling happy and full, not weighed down and in dire need of a nap, which is so often the case after a lavish weekend brunch.

Featuring a menu centred exclusively on fresh, wholesome vegetarian and vegan fare, brunch plates at this Main Street eatery are full of colourful ingredients and clean flavours. The menu also offers additional gluten-free items to accommodate alternative diets.

Under the leadership of Executive Chef Rob Clarke, and Sous Chef Brian Luptak, who together approach vegetarian food in innovative and unique ways, brunch at The Acorn will not only knock the socks off vegetarian eaters but also impress and satisfy even the most stubborn of meat-eaters.

Breaking from traditional weekend brunch service, The Acorn pushes the boundaries of vegetarian cuisine with items such as the Southern fried artichokes, atop gluten-free vegan waffles, doused in a Bourbon maple syrup (their take on the American brunch classic chicken and waffles).

Also featured on the weekend menu, is the popular Beggars Banquet ($14), a wholesome summer breakfast harvest of sorts, comprised of seasonal vegetables, herbs and goodies from local farms. For an additional $2 diners can add an Urban Digs Farm poached egg to the scrumptious mix.

Those searching for something a little sweeter should try the Berries + Meringue ($10). Dotted with a scattering of seasonal berries, a lightly toasted chickpea meringue, macadamia nuts, sorrel, and cracked black pepper, this dish is refreshingly light and so stunning to look at that it almost seems a shame to eat it.

While the main brunch plates are enough to fill you up, don’t be skipping the sides. With a list featuring slow cooked new potatoes ($5), sautéed market greens ($4), and green beans in scape butter ($4), how could you resist?

From the bar patrons can expect to see The Acorn’s carefully-crafted signature cocktails (which go exceptionally well with the restaurant’s food offerings), local beer and wine listed, in addition to coffee by Four Barrel Roasters, cold brew by Lukes, organic tea, fresh squeezed orange or grapefruit juice, and lemonade.

The Bitter Cocktail ($10), comprised of Campari, St. Germaine Elderflower liqueur, lemon curd, sparkling wine, and bronze fennel, is a delicate concoction featuring subtle citrusy notes, and comes highly recommended.

With excellent food choices, flavourful dishes, delicious cocktails, a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and gracious, knowledgable staff, The Acorn certainly has all the right ingredients for a memorable weekend brunch.
