With spring in full swing, temperatures on the rise across the country and summer on the horizon, it’s time to start prepping for a little pool action. We can’t help you try on bathing suits or lube you up and rub you down with SPF 30 or inflate your favorite rubber orca, for that matter. But we can offer you a serious dive into the deep end with these crazy, mind-blowing pools.

The Cantilevered Pool
Location: Austin, TX
Price: $2.95 Million

Ever visit an aquarium and wonder what it would be like to be a fish (or a mermaid) and live underwater? Well, you can get the fish bowl experience and more in Austin with this awe-inspiring cantilevered pool. Designed by architectural firm of Andersson-Wise, the suspended spectacle offers 180-degree views of Lake Austin from the comfort of your very own prism of glass, concrete and steel.

The Bauhaus Bedroom See-Through Pool

Location: Atlanta, GA
Price: $1.95 Million

If you fancy a submarine feel in the bedroom, you will want to take a gander at this glass bottom pool in Atlanta. Enhanced by an aqua portal between the master suite and a prime rooftop pool setup, the under-the-sea interiorallows you to float into dreamland from the comfort of your own bed.

The Temple Pool

Location: Las Vegas, NV
Price: $22.5 Million

Pay homage to the Pool God and offer him a tribute to summer by taking a dip in this palatial pool and spa combo inLas Vegas. Though the indoor pool setup, complete with separate changing rooms, towel rooms and a sauna, is quite beguiling, it is hardly the only opulent highlight that the $22.5 million desert sanctuary has to offer.

The Ring of Fire Pool (Now With Real Fire!)

Location: La Habra Heights, CA
Price: $6.995 Million

Johnny Cash sang of a “Ring of Fire” to describe his blossoming relationship with June Carter, and you’d be hard-pressed not to fall in love with this in-pool pyrotechnic display, which is without a doubt the pièce de résistance for atropically-inspired backyard oasis. Even without the fireworks, the pool flexes serious muscle in the form of a spa, waterfall and grotto with a swim-up bar, but we’d be lying if we said floating rings of fire (and a water slide that goes down, down, down and through a floating ring of fire!!!) are not the coolest pool features we have ever seen.

The ‘Big Cat’ Pool

Location: North Fort Myers, FL
Price: $780,000

Husband: “You know what this pool really needs, besides the water slide and hot tub?”
Wife: “What’s that, dear?”
Husband: “A fake tree with lights and a bobcat statue right in the middle of it.”
Wife: “Okay, dear.”

The Double-Decker Pool

Location: Dallas, TX
Price: $6.95 Million

Double-dipping is one of the most egregious party fouls; however, at this particular Richardsonian Romanesque residence, double-dipping isn’t just allowed, it’s practically encouraged. Head to the backyard and double up on your fun with this double-decker pool combo that takes things to the next level with a tiered rock-face design complete with waterfalls and swim-in cave.

The Pool House, Literally

Location: Las Vegas, NV
Price: $2.9 Million

In the market for a home with a pool? How about a pool that happens to include a home. We’ve seen certain rooms act as the focal point or “hub” of a house, but it’s the pool that anchors down this quirky, octagonal spread. Step out of the kitchen (or the office or the living room or one of three sleep odds) and directly into the celestial pond at this desert abode, which also rocks this added bonus: telescoping doors lifted from the Star Trek Enterprise.

When it comes to unique homes, we’re on a roll… This month at Decoist, we’ve delighted in featuring a range of one-of-a-kind dwellings, from houseboats to upcycled silos. Today we take a peek into the world of houses on wheels. What makes them so alluring? Their mobility? Their compact size? Their modern design? You decide!

houses on wheels Houses on Wheels That Will Make Your Jaw Drop

In fact, the homes on wheels featured in today’s post are not grand in scale. They’re not over-the-top in terms of style. And they’re anything but fancy inside. But here’s the appeal: they are cleverly designed to maximize space. And there’s something special about a dwelling that can be easily transported, opening a world of possibilities…

Tall Man’s Tiny House

We begin with Tall Man’s Tiny House, a home designed by brothers Adam and Aaron Leu, (who are both 6′ 7″ tall–hence the name of the home)! What makes a house tiny? Generally, the phrase “tiny house” refers to a dwelling that is less than 1,000 square feet. And this compact home definitely qualifies… [from ThisWeek Community News]

The interior of the home boasts features such as custom cabinets and pinewood flooring. In addition to the kitchen, this 130 square-foot home includes a bathroom, a living room and a loft (not included in the square footage). Side note: the walls of the home feature painted hardboard, and the ceiling is crafted from maple plywood. [from Tall Man's Tiny House]

Just because the home is small doesn’t mean it’s short on function. From the kitchen you can access a small open storage area, and there’s even additional closet space in the bathroom! And yes, the house features plumbing and wiring. Below we see corrugated metal walls surrounding a compact shower. [from Tall Man's Tiny House]

Tiny House on a Flatbed Trailer

Our next featured Tiny House rests on a flatbed trailer. Built by Jenine Alexander with the help of her friend Amy Hutto, the space includes both upper and lower sleeping lofts, as well as full trailer hook-ups for electric, propane, and water. The home can also nicely accommodate any solar, wind or hydro power system. [from Tiny House Blog]

As we zoom in to get a close-up of the home’s exterior, would you ever imagine that the inside of this place boasts Ponderosa pine ceilings, bamboo flooring, and even a kitchenette with marble counter tops? Then again, given the ingenuity of the home’s designers, is it really a surprise that this dwelling would be as spectacular on the inside as it is on the outside? [from Tiny House Blog]

Rolling Huts

Ready to roll with it? So are these amazing rolling huts! These wheel-clad dwellings were created to meet the need of accommodating visiting guests. They boast a low-tech design while still managing to be chic. [Images below from Olson Kundig Architects]

The site on which these huts rest was once an RV campground. The homes are grouped as a team, yet each one faces the mountains so the view is expansive rather than crowded.  For more information on renting these stunning homes located in  located in Washington’s Methow Valley, check out Rolling Huts.

 Leaf House

We end by turning our attention to Leaf House, designed to shelter a family of four. Built from Forest Stewardship Certified timber and reclaimed materials, this is one eco-friendly home! The space is 215 square feet, including a 55 square foot sleeping loft. The photos that follow are courtesy of Leafhouse/Laird Herbert via Tiny House Talk.

This home was cleverly created by Laird Herbert. We love how the exterior of the house combines metal and FSC tongue and groove cedar. FYI–the interior walls of the home are crafted from birch plywood and drywall.

It’s amazing how many separate areas can fit into one compact space. Below we see the sleeping loft, the kitchen, the dining “room,” and the living area, complete with a sofa bed. Hint: you can maximize your space by placing sleeping zones in out-of-the-way spots. Or using dual-purpose furniture, such as a sofa that is also a bed!

In another view of the living space, we see a wall mirror, recessed lighting, and two large mineral specimens that add earthy interest:

From http://blog.buzzbuzzhome.com/2012/03/worst-real-estate-listings.html

Photos can make or break an online listing. When they go right, even a mediocre home looks like a luxurious palace. And when they go wrong? Well, we’ll let you decide…

Here are some of the worst and most ridiculous real estate listing photos we’ve come across!

Does the shirtless chap and tiny dog come with the place, or are they extra?

We love nature as much as the next guy, but we don’t think we’d give up our tub for it.

If the patchy periwinkle blue walls don’t sell you on this home, the suspicious body-shaped stain in the middle of the floor might.

From small spaces can come really awesome designs… but in this case we’re just seeing health code violations.

We think this is a picture of the kitchen.

At least it’s not AstroTurf?

That doll doesn’t look like it takes to house guests too kindly– or new owners.
